Spring Color Trend: Inspired by Turquoise

It is time to get inspired and in the spirit of spring! One of the best ways to “spring forward” is to do a little redecorating and one of the hottest colors for this spring is Turquoise.

Inspired Palette - Turquoise and olive green may not be a conventional color scheme but is is definitely working in the room above, look at how cool and refreshing this looks. It works seamlessly together in this eclectic living room. The other shades of green, white trimmings and simple sketches give the space an artistic vibe!

1. Comfortably Cottage – For a true lover of turquoise, paint the walls of the living room the serene shade. Perfectly faded fabrics, hardwood floors and antiqued furniture evoke a comfy cottage atmosphere.

2. Turquoise It Up - This look is easy to create. Take an ordinary piece of furniture from dull to stunning with a fresh coat of paint. See how this chest was transformed into a beautiful piece with a pretty shade of turquoise!

3. Bright and Girly - The combination of turquoise and hot pink is both feminine and energetic. Add white accents to keep the palette fresh. I am so loving this color combination.

4. Chic Yet Cozy – Often used in cottage style, turquoise mixes well with other favorite cottage hues, like pink, white and yellow. Painted the elegant walls in hues of blue-green. Fill the vintage kitchen with distressed furnishing, floral patterns and a toleware chandelier.

Spring Dessert: Peach Upside-Down Cake

Here a great recipe for you to test out this weekend for your upcoming spring parties, Peach Upside-Down Cake. Peach slices and brown sugar form a moist base for the tender, square cake – and when flipped over, that base becomes the topping. Simply delicious!

Here’s the recipe:

Makes 8 servings

Ingredients

1/4 cup butter

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1-1/2 to 2 cups sliced, pitted and peeled peaches or frozen unsweetened peach slices, thawed and large slices cut in half lengthwise

1-1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1-1/4 tsp. baking powder

1/4 tsp. salt

1/2 cup butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

1 egg

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 cup milk

Preparation

1. Place 1/4 cup butter in an 8x8x2-inch baking pan. Warm in a 350 degrees F oven about 5 minutes or until butter is melted. (Be sure to watch carefully to avoid overbrowning the butter). Remove pan from oven. Add brown sugar, stirring until sugar is completely moistened. Spread sugar mixture evenly in pan. Arrange peach slices evenly over brown sugar mixture. Set aside.

2. In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt; set aside. In a large bowl, beat 1/2 cup butter with an electric mixer on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Beat in granulated sugar until well combined. Add egg and vanilla, beating until combined. Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to beaten butter mixture, beating on low speed after each addition just until combined. Spread batter evenly over the peaches in the pan.

3. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until a wooden toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool in pan on wire rack for 5 minutes. Loosen cake from sides of pan; invert onto a large serving plate. Cool for 10 to 15 minutes more. Serve warm.

Enjoy!

Posh Party: St. Patrick’s Day Celebration

Well, wouldn’t you know it,  it’s time to put on your pretty party green outfit, mix up some Irish cocktails and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. St. Patrick’s Day is next Wednesday March 17th, but most of the celebrations will begin this weekend with the parades. So to help you with your planning for the holiday, we’ve put together some ideas that will make your party a success.

For a beautiful table setting, I would suggest keeping it simple and chic. Here’s an idea for a beautiful and festive tablecloth and napkin (above).  Make a striking tablecloth out of chartreuse raw silk or cotton and for an added touch of color, wrap white napkins with a square of green netting or sheer organza before inserting into a napkin ring. Another great idea for your table top is a simple gray linen napkin and a shamrock leaf (below).

For some Shamrock Luck (below) – Display little pots o’ luck for St. Pat’s Day by planting shamrocks in jars, cups, or bowls. For more St. Patrick’s Day inspiration, read more… »
