Wedding Diary: The Freshman 15
We are still in the process of finalizing our wedding/reception locations but we are very close. I thought I would take a break from the standard wedding planning details and talk about a very important topic…the freshman 15. Most of you know what I am talking about. When you started college everyone talked about the typical weight gain you get during your first year. For me, I don’t know if it was because of the food or the booze. So in case my mom is reading this, it was definitely because of the food.

What I have discovered is that the freshman 15 doesn’t just coincide with college. New relationships/marriages can have the same effect. How do I know this? Well, how many of you have seen friends that just go married or started dating someone and they look like they have put on a little weight? We immediately say, “Ah they are happy and comfortable”. “He/she will lose it eventually.” Well I am raising my hand because it’s happened to me. Problem is no one bothered to tell me I was beginning to look a little “fuller” and now I have to figure out how to lose it. Not only did I gain my freshman 15 but I am pretty sure that I gained Nelson’s portion as well. I am the first to admit that although my fiancé wined and dined me, I take full ownership of letting him sweep me off my feet with food, and wine, and beer, and pies…etc.. He’s a great cook AND he bakes and I have reaped all the benefits of the good food; its called weight gain!!!

I know most women who are about to get married think about their weight and how they will look in “the dress”. Well, I am one of those women. I would love to say that I wanted to have a lengthy engagement so we had time to plan and enjoy our engagement but really, who am I kidding. If I was thinner, I would have totally been fine with cutting this engagement down to 8 months instead of 12. So, I am officially putting it out there; I want to be thinner for my wedding. Please note that this is all my desire. My wonderful fiancé is being very supportive and constantly tells me that he loves me the way I am. Problem is; I don’t, so we are going to fix this. Over the past three weeks I have slowly been removing the unhealthy foods, cutting out the alcohol and working out daily. I just wish there was a magic pill that I could take to make it all go away but I know there isn’t so I am focused on becoming healthy.

I don’t really know if I have a certain weight goal but I do know that I have decided not to try on any wedding dresses until March. So, wish me luck and for you women out there that are already married, let me know your thoughts on how you felt about trying on “the dress” and your desire to shed a few pounds before the wedding. I promise to update you and let you know how things are going. The key is taking one day at a time. So here’s to getting rid of the freshman 15…20…25, oh who’s counting.

Enjoy!

Oh yeah! Coming up on our 1 year anniversary… I am about 15 pounds heavier. Went from a 0 to a 2/4! Something has gotta give. This is not natural, right? The next year will be devoted to UN-doing year one. Haha
