Wow, can you believe we are approaching the end of May? Spring is here, and summer is on the way, so for me that means it’s time to look at the must haves in summer fashion.
Listening to the birds chirping in the morning is a clear indication it’s time to prepare for consecutive days of warmer weather. The best way for me to do this and get my wardrobe ready to transition into the summer fashion season is to edit my closet.
This is the perfect time for me to remove older outdated items from my closet and make room for my new summer fashion “must haves”. So, in full disclosure, I keep my closet classic with subtle pops of trend. That makes my edits easy and minimal.
While trying to stay true to my formula for editing my closet, I have room for four must-haves this summer season. And guess what, I am sharing my summer fashion list with you, along with the links of where you can buy them. If you already have these items covered, great…add more, a girl can never have enough of the season’s must-haves.
The Summer Fashion Accessory
The Belt Bag or Fanny Pack: Let’s get one thing clear, this is not your father’s old school fanny pack that he use to wear on family vacations. This is a new and improved updated, on trend fashion accessory! You can find this bag everywhere either at a luxury or moderate price point. If you love the freedom of wearing a cross-body bag you will find this bag equally as enjoyable. Wear it as intended around the waist, however since that is not a flattering look on me (a pouch on my pouch) I prefer to style it on one arm like a backpack or across the body! This subtle accessory can elevate your look while adding functionality.
The Summer Fashion Detail
Fringe: This detail is here to stay! You may already have this covered but you can never have too much fringe. This trend detail has made the list for a couple of years now. My challenge to you is to wear this detail in a different and unexpected way. Fringe is a fun and whimsical iconic trend that is timeless… like Tina Turner and Cher! A classic trend that is meant to be reinvented.
The Summer Fashion Material
Straw and Raffia: This textured material is no longer only isolated to the beach! Straw hats, bags etc, is welcomed in any setting and can make an outfit just a bit more interesting! Since this is a natural fiber, it pairs very nicely with other natural material such as cotton, linen and silk.
The Summer Fashion Silhouette
Culottes: The cropped wide-leg pant is an awesome Spring trend. Culottes are not a new trend, like most trends they cycle in and out of style. They have been back on the radar in a small way since last spring. I wasn’t sure if this trend was going to make a full come back, however I am confident to add culottes to the must have list. It is definitely a much bigger fashion item this spring season. For those that love the comfort of a wide leg pant have a new reason to buy this cropped version. In any fabric this pant can have a dressy or casual feel. Show off your gladiator sandals, strapy heels or hip platforms with this pant silhouette. To flawlessly wear this spring “must have” my only tip if needed, is to alter the hem line to fit your height.
Hope you enjoy adding some of these pieces to your summer wardrobe!
